The Federated Church of Sycamore
There's a Place for YOU Here!
Nurturing a faith that your child won't need to heal from!
Our children's ministries are growing as new families looking for a progressive spiritual home continue to find us. Too often, parents are forced to choose between belonging to a church that shares their progressive values, and one that has ministries for their children.
Look no further! At Federated, you will find a small but growing intergenerational church committed to supporting you and your children along your spiritual journeys, with an emphasis on social justice, LGBTQ+ belonging, and honoring neurodiversity. Here, we don't offer simplistic, pre-packaged answers; instead we encourage and empower children and adults to trust their inner voice as they continue discerning alongside others who God is for them.
On Sunday mornings, you can expect to:
* start worship together in the sanctuary. (there are "Children's Bulletins" and fidget toys available when you enter the sanctuary!)
* Shortly into the service, children through age 10 will gather with our Children's Church team where they will go off to our Chapel and engage in a Montessori-styled service of storytelling, conversation, and creative exploration through various crafts and activities.
* In some seasons, like Advent and Lent, the children will return during the service as the whole congregation is invited into an interactive time of "Prayer Stations."
At Federated, we find joy in creating both separate and developmentally appropriate spaces for children and adults, as well as coming together for intergenerational experiences.

Our Children's Ministries are led by Bill O'Hagan. Affectionately known as "Mr. Bill," Bill spent 30 years as a middle school science teacher. In retirement, Bill attended Chicago Theological Seminary to be trained in progressive Christian theology and ministry with children, youth, and young adults. Bill has a passion for facilitating creative, interactive, and inclusive environments that are particularly attentive to the beautiful neurodiversity of our children.
We are excited to be in the process of starting a High School Youth Group. If you have a high schooler looking for a youth group, we can't wait to offer this space!
Our goal, "from womb to tomb," is to form people in the compassionate, just, and loving Way of Jesus. As we experience God's Love claiming us in all of our fullness--including our rough edges--we seek ways to share that love with others!
