Lent 2021

"Healing Love & Holy Vessels

Lenten Devotional Group

Lent is the season (40 days) leading up to Easter during which we reflect on Jesus' journey of suffering and joy. As we journey "with Jesus," we ask ourselves: what is getting in the way of the "fullness of life" that God desires for us and our world? What changes in our actions, inaction, or words can we make to create a world of flourishing for ourselves and others? Are there new things we need to "take up"? Are there things we need to give up?

Every Tuesday (February 23 - March 30) from 9-10am, we will gather virtually via Zoom to watch a brief but inspiring video by one of today's foremost Christian leaders, thinkers, and peacemakers. We will then reflect on their words together, connecting the wisdom of our ancient faith with the contemporary realities of our world and daily lives.

Lenten Book Study

We will once again gather a group for a 6-week virtual Book Discussion (day/time TBD).  This Lent, we'll be using the powerful book, The Cross and the Lynching Tree (click to see book), by the eminent scholar and theologian, James Cone.

Together, we will explore the history of these symbols and their interconnection in the history and souls of black folk. Both the cross and the lynching tree represent the worst in human beingsand, at the same time, an undying thirst for life that refuses to let the worst determine our final meaning.

Ash Wednesday Service

Join us virtually via Facebook Live on Wednesday, February 17, at 7pm as we gather for a brief but meaning-filled service of reflection on the ways brokenness and beauty, joy and sorrow, life and death are woven together—and how our faith speaks into the challenges of life.
