What comes to mind when you think of sabbath? Most of us think of a time to catch our breath after a busy week so that we have enough energy to get "back to the grind." 

 

But in scripture, sabbath is much more than this. In fact, this notion of sabbath is very much at odds with the meaning of sabbath in scripture.

 

This sermon series explores how we've largely misunderstood this word, and how truly understanding it is necessary for us to move toward healing and wholeness, toward flourishing--individually, as a community, and as a world. As the great author, Cole Arthur Riley puts it: Sabbath "Rest is not the reward of our liberation, nor something we lay hold of once we are free.
